Independence Day 2019 had us awaiting two big releases in the form of ‘Mission Mangal’ and ‘Batla House’. It was again about Akshay Kumar and John Abraham clashing on Independence Day 2019, after ‘Gold’ and ‘Satyamev Jayate’ last year. Although John had the last laugh last year, seems like Akshay and his big star cast might have toppled John’s chances this year. But is that really the case? Let’s find out. While Mission Mangal minted 29.16 crores at the box office on Day 1, Batla House collected 14.59 crores at the box office. So, from the exterior layer, any sane mind would say that it’s Mission Mangal that is the clear winner. But there’s a different tale to the whole story.
As per the ruling of the Delhi High Court, there was an attempt to halt the release of ‘Batla House’. What hit the movie the most was that there were cuts and modifications introduced into the movie just a day before the release, due to which the makers of the movie had to remake the prints and once again make arrangements to send the prints to the movies. However, it isn’t as simple as it sounds and hence it takes time. It is due to this that John and Nikkhil clearly mentioned that because the prints would reach late, it would affect the first day collections of the movie. But the movie has collected more than 14 crores despite the hamper in the box office day 1 collections.
So what do you think? Was there a possibility that if Batla House too had a smooth run and release just like Mission Mangal, the box office day 1 collection competition would have been more intense? Share your views below. For more such updates, stay tuned to IWMBuzz.com
