With films like ‘Kesari,’ ‘Airlift,’ ‘Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty,’ and ‘Mission Mangal,’ Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has always shown his passion for the country. The actor has proudly remarked about what makes cinema with dollops of patriotism liked so much among all.
So, what, in his opinion, makes films with a dash of patriotism so popular? “Not only in India, but all throughout the world, people adore their homeland. It’s the youth and everyone; they all love their nation, no matter where they come from,” Akshay told IANS. Here are Akshay Kumar’s movies which are patriotic.
1. Baby
Keeping with his newly polished image and his prior successful collaborations with Neeraj Pandey in films like Special 26, Akshay has chosen Baby, a patriotic thriller. He once again confirmed his new avatar was taking shape by portraying him as a dangerous undercover RAW agent on a mission to take out big-time terrorists.
2. Airlift
Again, the most successful film of 2016 was built on patriotism, and it included Akshay Kumar without a doubt. Airlift was based on the historic human evacuation from Kuwait, albeit it was not necessarily told in a loud or over-the-top manner. Akshay once again enjoyed success as patriotism came to his rescue, not for the first time, with a new approach and delicately complex character.
3. Rustom
Rustom isn’t exactly a patriotic movie. It’s the story of a former naval officer who murders his wife’s lover but is saved by patriotism. Rustom has that tinge of nationalism that we think works well for Akshay, given his recent transformation and success in the league of nation-loving dramas.
The saying goes that patriotism is a scoundrel’s last refuge, but given Akshay’s recent success, patriotism may be the first and only refuge he should pursue right now.
4. Pad Man
The goal of the film is to raise societal awareness about menstruation and how it is not a taboo topic, but rather something that all women go through every month. The story is inspired by the life and achievements of social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham and is based on a chapter from Twinkle Khanna’s book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad. Once again, Akshay Kumar appears as the unsung hero and patriot that we have been longing to see on television.
5. Toilet Ek Prem Katha
The film is a love story with a social undercurrent that has been unofficially linked to the government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by many. Based on a true tale, it delivers a lesson about the necessity of hygienic conditions, and, once again, the actor takes a remote but patriotic approach to make a change in society.
