Bollywood has given us plenty of laughs with its quirky characters. But they have also solidified quite a few stereotypes that are unreal and sometimes even a tad bit toxic. The industry has stereotype quite a few characters regardless of it being a man or woman. These characters make a movie quite problematic to watch. Here are 5 stereotypical characters that Bollywood needs to get rid of ASAP.

1) Succesfull Progressive Woman
One of the most problematic roles is that of the modern and progressive successful woman. These roles often have the negative implication of them sleeping around with many men instead of simply being good at their job. These women are also portrayed to drink, smoke, and have a casual outlook on everything except their job.

2) The Violent Cop:
While action movies get your blood pumping, nothing is more blood-curling than the stereotype of a cop who goes around beating people up. Cops in movies never treat any criminal like a human and yet they become a savior of the locals. And even though his rowdy behaviors keep him in bad books with his senior he still gets the important case files.

3) The Hot Teacher:
There is always that one hot teaching in Bollywood movies whose hotness comes in the way of student’s concentration. The character is only a stepping stone for the protagonist in the plot of the movie. Sushmita Sen’s role from Main Hoon Na is a prime example of this role that needs to be rid of!

4) The Broken Hearted Man Hater:
Bollywood has a knack for portraying heartbroken feminist women as downright mean. They portray them in a light where they ill-treat men and end up using men like toys. This is not what empowerment means and it’s definitely not any form of feminism!

5) Stereotyping People from Different communities:
Bollywood had stereotyped so many different communities are it, people, from different regions or people who aren’t heterosexual and CIS gender. The stereotype of Panjabi going balle balle for no reason, Gujaratis with their accents, gay men acting being too effeminate among others are quite toxic stereotypes that need to be canned!
