Dhanush was launched by Tamil cinema producer and director Kasthuri Raja as Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja. After being pushed by his sibling, filmmaker Selvaraghavan, he started acting. On November 18, 2004, he wedded Aishwarya Rajinikanth. Yathra and Linga are his two children. On January 18, 2022, the pair began their divorce.

Dhanush, who has mostly worked in Tamil cinema, has appeared in 44 films and has received 13 SIIMA Awards, 9 Vijay Awards, 7 Filmfare Awards South, 5 Vikatan Awards, 5 Edison Awards, 3 National Film Awards, and one Filmfare Award. The 37-year-old actor has also been included six times on the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list, which ranks the incomes of Indian stars.

Dhanush also performs as a backup vocalist and writer on occasions, usually inside his own films. Yuvan Shankar Raja presented him as just a recording artist in Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan, and he cooperated with him now in his sibling Selvaraghavan’s movie, Pudhupettai. He also sang in Selvaraghavan’s flicks Aayirathil Oruvan and Mayakkam Enna.

His greatest success was the song “Why this Kolaveri Di” from his third film, produced by his wife. The song went viral and received a massive reaction, propelling Dhanush to national prominence. He also sang another track from the same movie, “Kannazhaga” with Shruti Haasan. Dhanush also sang in the film Ezhumin for debuting musician Ganesh Chandrasekaran, which was highly received by the audience.

With the title of India’s Hottest Vegetarian Celebrity of 2011, he was selected to become PETA’s brand ambassador. Dhanush collaborated with WWF India to promote Earth Hour 2012. He also launched his own production company, WUNDER BAR.
