Actress Tabu, who made her film debut in 1982’s Bazaar as an uncredited extra and then appeared in the credited part in the 1985 film Hum Naujawan, has advanced considerably since then. As one of the most renowned female performers of the current generation, Tabu has experimented in a variety of cinema sectors and genres. Tabu has achieved everything, from critically acclaimed movies to box office triumphs to National Awards. Her unique cinematic voice as an artist is audible on screen. You might be surprised to learn that she was an introvert even after she established herself as a legitimate actress.
When asked about her upbringing on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, Tabu revealed that she spent her formative years in Hyderabad with her mother’s parents after her parents’ divorce. She said, “I had a great childhood, we lived in Hyderabad our entire lives, and I lived with my grandparents (mother’s parents). I spent more time with my mother’s mother because she was a teacher, and I grew up around her praying and reading books. I was extremely shy and voiceless; in fact, even after becoming a hero and an actor, I still lacked a voice,” the multi-talented actor said with a chuckle.
During the same interview, Tabu discussed not having a relationship with her father. When she was only 3 years old, her parents got divorced. The father later remarried and has two daughters with this new woman. The actor was asked why she never used her last name, Hashmi, and she responded, “I never really used it. I never thought it was important for me to use my father’s last name. It was always Tabassum Fatima, which was my middle name. I went by the name Fatima at school. I don’t remember him at all. He has occasionally met my sister, but I’ve never really felt like going to meet him. I am content with who I am and how I have developed; I have no interest in him. My personal life is quite stable.”
Although Tabu has never been married, there have been numerous rumors regarding her relationship with actor Nagarjuna Akkineni over the years. The two have continued to preserve their deep friendship and special place in one other’s hearts.
