Chris Evans and his Boxer-mix rescue dog, Dodger, have a strong attachment. In fact, he’s stated his bond with Dodger is “probably one of the purest” he’s ever had, and he even got a tattoo in his honor. Chris has been showering the internet with photographs of himself and his sweet kid since adopting him in 2017, and we can’t get enough.
Continue reading to find out everything we know about Dodger and to see some of his most adorable photos — he’s such a gorgeous pup!
On Valentine’s Day of 2017, Chris uploaded a photo of his dog, Dodger. “Everyone has a wonderful Valentine’s Day! From both myself and this frantic social climber.” He posted a fuzzy shot of Dodger licking his face on Twitter. Chris adopted Dodger, who was once named Benny, from a shelter. “When he came in as a stray, the shelter gave him that name,” Chris explained about Benny. “He spent roughly a month there. I’m surprised no one caught him sooner!” He commented beside another video from the day he adopted him: “I knew he was coming home with me straight immediately, so I recorded our first greeting to remember it forever. The best dogs are rescue dogs!!”
Chris has revealed a lot about his furry pal over the years, including how much he adores his pet lion that sings and even howls. Dodger, on the other hand, is a lover of all things and people. Chris wrote, “My dog is still a pure, brand new soul, enjoying nonverbal bonds of love + acceptance with pretty much everything.”
He’s also revealed the origins of Dodger’s name: despite being known as Benny for a month in the shelter, Chris chose Dodger for a very charming reason. “Oliver & Company, an animated film, is a good example of this. I’ve been watching it since I was a kid.” In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, he stated. “‘Oh man, that looks like Dodger from Oliver & Company,’ I thought when I first saw him in the shelter. Then, after deciding to take him home with me, I went through the process of coming up with alternative names, but I couldn’t get away from Dodger.”
The tattoo Chris has in honor of his precious pup, which he acquired shortly after adopting him, is perhaps the cutest fact about Chris and Dodger’s bond. Chris uploaded a photo of Dodger laying on his breast, right over his own name tattoo, and subsequently revealed the mark to Jimmy Kimmel: “It didn’t take much to persuade me. That tattoo is something I’ll never regret. I’ve had a lot of regrets in my life, but not that one.”
