Actor Bhumi Pedenkar has been a force to be reckoned with in the past few years and it is only fitting that now that she has completed a decade in the entertainment industry, she is one of the most loved and appreciated actors in the inner circle and amongst the fans as well.

Recently, in an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz, Bhumi Pednekar sat down for a special chat and we went on to ask her about looking back at the ten years she has spent in the industry, her biggest learnings and much more.

And while talking about her recent release, Mere Husband Ki Biwi, the conversation also veered to the film, Saand Ki Aankh where she received acclaim alongside Taapsee Pannu but there was a section of people who also directed criticism regarding the choice to have younger actresses playing the roles of elderly women and not veterans. She gave her take to that as well.

I became an actor because I love the craft, and acting was something I never thought would happen to me. Now that it has, I just want to keep working and delivering my best.

Q: Looking back on your journey in the industry, what has been your biggest learning?

Bhumi: I think the biggest thing I have accepted in this journey is that I cannot control my success or failure. It is part of a larger plan, and I need to embrace both with equal love. That has been my biggest learning. Failure can be very lonely—of course, I have my family and my ecosystem, but it is often a solo journey professionally. On the other hand, when things are successful, everyone is with you. At that time, it is important to understand who your real people are, as they are the ones who will make your journey comfortable ahead as well.

Q: There was criticism regarding the casting of Saand Ki Aankh. How do you respond to that?

Bhumi: I don’t entirely disagree with that criticism. It is unfortunate that there still aren’t enough roles being written for women. If you look at the West, actors like Meryl Streep are still doing lead roles. So, in a way, I do agree with that narrative. However, Saand Ki Aankh was a very special film for me. I became an actor because I love the craft, and acting was something I never thought would happen to me. Now that it has, I just want to keep working and delivering my best.
