TV actor Mayank Gandhi, who is making the big screen shift to Punjabi cinema with Tere Meri Gal Ban Gayi, is very excited about the project.
“It has love, emotions and all that happens in every Punjabi family. I can’t say much about my character except that it will leave a deep impact on one and all.”
“It is a matter of pride to share screen space with biggies like Puneet Issar, Tej Sapru and Alka Kubal. We are shooting as we speak in a start to finish shed in Punjab, which will wrap up soon,” Mayank adds.
“Being a Punjabi myself, I always wanted to be connected with my roots. As for the industry, it is coming up with some commendable content.”
On TV vs films, he says, “More than the medium, what matters is good content. I have always chosen meaty characters in my TV shows like Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna, Veera, Sarojini, Million Dollar Girl, etc.” He first started with Kaun Jeetega Bollywood Ka Ticket on Zee TV, back in 2008.
“I am also very choosy about my work. Agreed, it had been TV for a long time, but at least I was in a profession that gave me inner satisfaction. Being a Whistling Woods graduate, I will not do anything just to be seen. Even on TV, I keep working on my nuances and looks (Kaala Teeka).”
Point out that despite being around for so many years on the tube, he has not yet been noticed big time and he says, “I don’t know about that, but yes, the very fact that my producers have repeated me means I am doing a decent enough job. I will be forever grateful to Ekta Kapoor for giving me my first fiction break with Kasamh Se.”
Going on, he adds, “I am just happy to keep getting work. I know of several actors waiting in the wings for years.”
“The best part is that today, with new digital mediums opening up, actors are getting many more opportunities. But yes, money is less for freshers.”
Mayank is also game for web series. However, he is not ready to go dare bare. “I like to follow Salman Khan sir’s mantra of not doing erotic content,” he ends.
