From Amber Heard to Rihanna: Here’s a list of celebs who went vocal about abuse in their relationship and encouraged everyone

Taking a stand for yourself in an abusive relationship is difficult, but these celebrities have shown the bravery to do so.

1. Rihanna

Rihanna and her then-boyfriend Chris Brown were involved in an abusive relationship. Chris Brown had beaten Rihanna in the car before the Grammys in 2019, and things got even worse when photographs of Rihanna’s wounded face circulated on social media. Chris Brown later admitted to lying to Rihanna about a previous sexual experience with a woman. She broke up with him and even admitted to being in an abusive relationship.

2. Reese Witherspoon

In an interview with Oprah, Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon said that she was in an abusive relationship. She married Ryan Philippe when she was 23 years old in 1999, however, the couple divorced in 2006.

3. Katy Perry

Katy Perry, a well-known singer in Hollywood, devoted her Grammy performance to survivors of domestic violence and even identified herself as a survivor. She didn’t say much about it, however.

4. Halle Berry

Halle Berry witnessed her mother suffer from domestic abuse. She, too, was a victim of domestic abuse in 1996, claiming that her partner had struck her so hard that her left eardrum had been perforated and she had lost 80% of her hearing in that ear. Her lover inflicted a terrible beating on the American actress. As a result, they decided to part ways for good.

5. Amber Heard

Amber Heard made headlines in 2016 when she spoke out about the abuse she received after her romance with Johnny Depp ended. She even urged survivors to step up and speak out against injustice. She used to advocate for the wrong, and she still does.

6. Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow described her romantic relationship with shamed film producer Harvey Weinstein as having all the symptoms of a “typical abusive relationship,” despite the fact that she hasn’t spoken about any of her past romantic relationships as being abusive.

7. Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey married Tommy Mottola, the head of a record label, when she was in her early twenties. Tommy Mottola was twenty years her senior. After four years together, the couple divorced, but over two decades later, on her TV show Mariah’s World, the singer said she was subjected to coercive control by her ex-husband.

“At the time, I was with someone who had a lot of power over my life,” she explained. “He was a lot older and had a lot of power than me, and he wanted me to stay away from most people.”
