Scarlett Johansson has fought enormous spiders in Eight Legged Freaks, saved the planet alongside the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and became the target of a tech-obsessed divorcee in Her. From a short appearance in 1994’s North to her Golden Globe-nominated performance in 2019’s Marriage Story, the star of the superhit movie, Black Widow film has established herself to be one of Hollywood’s strongest actors over a 25-year career. But which of ScarJo’s films do you think is her best?
Jojo Rabbit
Cadet in the Hitler Youth Jojo Betzler is a staunch believer in the Nazi principles embodied by his fictional friend Adolf Hitler. His principles, however, are shattered when he discovers a Jewish girl in his home. For this movie, Scarlett Johansson worked with a New Zealand-born talented director, Taika Waititi. He has also directed the spectacular Thor: Ragnarok. This movie was a huge success and won awards.
The Prestige
After proving himself as a master of commercially viable and mature cinema with Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan returned with The Prestige, reuniting with Christian Bale and bringing in newcomers Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johansson. Two 19th-century magicians (Jackman and Bale) fight to be the best illusionists in this mind-bending period film.
With a British accent, Scarlett Johansson plays Olivia, the film’s femme fatale. The movie is a masterfully crafted hot-cooker movie that keeps you wondering about its secrets from beginning to end.
The man who wasn’t there
The film, the man who wasn’t there, follows a barber (Billy Bob Thornton) whose suspicions of his wife’s (Frances McDormand) adultery drive him to plan a blackmailing scheme that only serves to set his life on an unanticipated downward spiral in 1940s California. Scarlett Johansson only had a minor role in the film, but her powerful performance as adolescent Birdy Abundas, who develops an unpleasant infatuation with middle-aged Thornton’s character, is important to some of the film’s most memorable and sad moments.
Marriage story
In this film, as well as the next two on this list, Scarlett Johansson’s ability to transmit true, even terrifying feelings associated with romance is on display. Marriage Story stands out from the other two because, while its view on romance is frequently hilarious and not particularly original in conception, it is a difficult experience to bear due to its brutally honest execution.
Marriage Story is a Netflix original film written and directed by Noah Baumbach about the split between Charlie (Adam Driver) and Nicole (Scarlett Johansson).
Her
As we previously stated, Scarlett Johansson has previously demonstrated her vocal abilities to great acclaim. Her remarkable portrayal as Samantha, Theodore’s (Joaquin Phoenix) digital personal assistant’s disembodied voice, epitomizes this.
Jonze, whose screenplay for this award-winning dramedy fetched an Academy Award in 2014.
Introverted writer Theodore Twombly purchases an Artificial Intelligence device to assist him in his writing. When he discovers the AI’s ability to learn and adapt, though, he falls in love with it.
