When it was launched 22 years ago on April 14, 1996, ‘Bala Ramayanam’ was a one-of-a-kind film. The film, directed by Gunasekhar and featuring about 3000 youngsters, gained notoriety for telling a mythological story with just child actors as stars. The part of Lord Rama was then played by Jr NTR, with traditional performer Smitha Madhav playing Sita. The kids in the movie were all between the ages of ten and twelve. In the same year, the film won the National Award for Best Children’s Film.

The film earned excellent feedback upon its debut, grossing Rs 5 crore in box office receipts.
