Miley Cyrus has admitted that media attention throughout her adolescence traumatized her feelings about her body, but she has gone a long way since then. The singer said that the relentless scrutiny and criticism of her body and appearance had a “long-term” effect on her.

‘I believe I knew who I was supposed to be, but I’m sure there’s more.’ ‘I believe it was the stress of feeling so judged for what I thought was a very ordinary adolescent, early [twenties] exploring,’ she explained.

The singer rose to prominence after starring in the film Hannah Montana. She starred in various films in the years that followed before releasing her debut song outside of the Hannah Montana franchise in 2008.

She told Rolling Stone for their current edition that she has noticed a positive shift in media representation of women.

“I believe we’ve made significant progress in the last two years, particularly in terms of women and bodies. I’m not sure whether you can even slut-shame now. ‘Is it even a thing?'” she wondered aloud.

Miley also stated that the media hasn’t ‘slut-shamed’ her in a long time, although she was sexualized at the age of 16 at one point.

She stated: “Yo when I’m 16 and you’re surrounding my boobs and stuff like that, I was like.’Do you think I’m the evil guy?’ ‘Wait, wait, wait,’ I believe people are beginning to say. That was a blunder. They’re starting to figure out who was the adversary and who was the victim.”

Miley confessed in the same interview that her drug use worsened after her marriage to Liam Hemsworth.
