Johnny Depp is one of the most versatile and talented actors of the Hollywood entertainment industry and the man has certainly achieved a lot in life in order to have a cult presence among all this fans. He is a pioneer in the true sense of the term and over the years, he has certainly done some amazing work in order to get the love and affection from fans all over the globe.
While today, he might be the most popular superstar to have ever been a part of Hollywood cinema, his starting happened in the most unexpected way, especially because he initially wanted to be a musician. So how did it all begin?
Well, during a conversation with The New York Times in 2019, Depp’s friend Nicolas Cage who played a big role in getting Johnny Depp his first video was quoted as saying,
“The true story is that we were already friends. I was living in an old building in Hollywood called the Fontenoy, and I think I ultimately rented the apartment to Johnny, and he started living there. But anyway, we were good friends, and we would play Monopoly, and he was winning a game, and I was watching him and I said, ‘Why don’t you just try acting?’” Cage added that Depp was hesitant at that time to take it up as he wanted to make it big as a musician and has said, “No, I can’t act” (Can you believe it!)”
He further added,
“I said, ‘I think you can act.’ So I sent him to meet with my agent. She sent him out on his first audition, which was A Nightmare on Elm Street. (And) he got the part that day.” In that same conversation, Cage added that Depp was an overnight success, saying, “Overnight sensations don’t happen. But it happened with him.”
