Natalie Portman, a fellow actress, interviewed Witherspoon, and the Legally Blonde star told how her friendship with Aniston began.
When Portman asked if Witherspoon and Aniston were friends before they started working on The Morning Show, Witherspoon replied, “We met on the set of Friends, where I had the role of her sister. I was 23 years old and had recently given birth to my first child.”
As she told Portman, Witherspoon was a ferocious multitasker even back then “Jen kept asking, ‘You have a baby?’ as I was nursing Ava on set. ‘I know, it’s strange,’ I said. And I recall her asking, “Where are you going?” ‘I’m pumping!’ I exclaimed.”
Witherspoon built up a tight connection with Aniston after playing Rachel Green’s sister, which has continued to this day. According to Witherspoon, “She was incredibly nice to me. ‘Oh, my gosh—don’t worry about it!’ she said when I was nervous. I was astounded by her ability to play so confidently in front of a live audience.”
As she told Portman, Witherspoon had an instant admiration for the comedy actress “They’d switch up all the lines, and she was always friendly, effervescent, and cheerful. Since then, we’ve remained friends.”
