Tinsel Town is the place whose glamour attracts people from all walks of life who’re looking to make big and breakthrough as the next star. There are very few who can overcome barriers of nepotism and looks and shine as they deserve.
Vicky Kaushal is one of them.
The 31-year-old actor is one of the most popular actors and hands down, one of the most talented actors to become a part of Bollywood in recent times.
Son of action director Sham Kaushal, Vicky Kausal had a humble upbringing. And despite being an industry insider, technically, Kaushal had his fair share of struggle before finally making a proper debut and breaking through with Massan, an independent drama directed by Neeraj Ghaywan.
Yes, that’s right.
Kaushal played minor roles in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana and Bombay Velvet. Though he was passable in both movies, he won IIFA and Screen Awards for Best Male Debut for Massan. And it’s only been an upward climb from Massan to Uri: The Surgical Strike.
In Raman Raghav 2.0, he was selected to play the dark character of an abusive, unlikeable and coke-snorting cop, Raghav. Very few actors would opt to play such a character, let alone nail it. And when Netflix’s first Hindi original ‘Love per Square Foot’ dropped, we were all convinced that Kaushal is actually a 20-something Mumbaikar with bad English. By the time the movie ended, we were in love with Sanjay.
When Raazi dropped, it was difficult to recognize Vicky in his uniform, playing the soft-spoken Pakistani husband Iqbal who’s doing his best to make his Indian wife feel at home. Every single heart in the theatre broke when Iqbal was killed.
He’s essayed diverse and frankly off-beat roles with much conviction. Vicky delivers as the struggling DJ in Manmarziyaan and is lovable as the naïve, yet weirdly supporting, a husband who can’t satisfy his wife in bed. Even when he played Ranbir Kapoor’s best friend in Sanju, Kamli, he managed to stand out and steal the show.
In the short span that Kaushal has been in the industry, he’s made us feel a roller coaster of emotions which reinforces our beliefs that Vicky Kaushal is the next Bollywood sensation.
