Desi girl Priyanka Chopra is an inspiration for many. The actress has come a long way in her career over the years. Yet, she did the impossible thing. From stepping into showbiz to becoming a prominent actress in Hollywood, the path for her was filled with obstacles and enormous tasks. However, it would not have been possible for Priyanka if her mother, Madhu Chopra, didn’t support her.
Of course, the path to success is difficult, so it was for Priyanka Chopra, also. But her mother had different dreams and wanted her daughter to do something great, which is impossible for others to think of. Very few know that Priyanka Chopra’s mother, Madhu Chopra, inspired the desi girl to participate in the Miss India Pageant, which eventually boosted her career start.
In an interview with Josh Talks, Asha Madhu Chopra revealed that it wasn’t easy for her to convince her family members. “When Priyanka had to go for Miss India, there was a huge debate at our house that when she is so good at studies, why do you have to put distractions in her mind? Priyanka also got nervous because this was not her choice. We had sent her (for the competition) just for fun. While Priyanka replied, ‘Mom, I don’t think I will be able to do that.”
“Her maternal family had no objections; they also believed as I did. But her paternal family had a lot of issues, ‘humaare ghar ki ladkiyan ye nahi karti hain’. My sister-in-law was from a conservative background and had three brothers who were in the army, and army men are overtly protective of their females, so they were very protective. But again, I sat them down, and they put their things across, and I put my reasoning across. Then my brother-in-law said, ‘Ok, let her take the opportunity, but there is one condition, she will never go alone. Either you or her father will have to accompany her’.”
And to ensure that Priyanka Chopra should have a better journey and success, she gave up her job. “This was another compromise I made. I wanted her not to miss the opportunity. They said, ‘Forget about your career, and go with Priyanka.’ I didn’t even think twice before leaving my career for her because I thought I had enjoyed my life; now, if my company helps her build a good future, I will do that.” The mother-daughter duo is an inspiration for many. And it was all possible with the help of Priyanka Chopra’s mother.
