Since the defamation trial got underway, news stories about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have been frequent. In 2018, after divorcing in 2016, the two engaged in a court battle over an opinion post-Amber had written for The Washington Post. You may not be aware of this, but Johnny once thought of himself as a “fortunate man” to have Amber in his life.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor was recently the subject of an old internet interview. When The Danish Girl’s premiere aired in 2015, Johnny talked very highly of Amber. They bonded on many different levels, and He told Eonline. “We relate on many levels, but the first thing that really struck a chord with me was the fact that she loves the blues. When I played an old, obscure blues tune, she immediately recognized it. She is incredibly literate. She is kind of intelligent and gorgeous, and we bonded on that as well because she is a voracious reader as I have been.” He had said, “I am a lucky man.”
After dating for a while, the former couple secretly married in their Los Angeles home in 2015. Amber obtained a temporary restraining order against him and filed for divorce on May 23, 2016. She had said that while they were dating, Johnny frequently did so while under the influence of drink or narcotics.
In April of this year, the court case got underway. On June 1, the decision in Depp’s favor was made public. The jury awarded Johnny Depp USD 15 million in damages, while Amber also received USD 2 million in damages after winning a portion of her libel case against Johnny.
For those who are not familiar with the case, Heard published an Op-Ed for The Washington Post in 2018 that presented her as the “public figure symbolizing domestic abuse,” leading Depp to sue her for USD 50 million on defamation grounds, for which he has already won USD 15 million.
Despite the fact that she omitted Depp’s name, it was evident from the libelous article that it was directed at her ex-husband, whom she divorced in 2016 due to allegations of domestic abuse. Heard countersued Depp for USD $100 million after the actor’s claim, citing three claims made by Adam Waldman, the actor’s former lawyer, in an exclusive to Daily Mail.
