Watson was discovered by casting agencies through her Oxford theatrical teacher, and producers were charmed by her self-assurance. Producer David Heyman informed Watson and fellow hopefuls Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast in the roles of Hermione Granger, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley, respectively, after eight auditions. She convinced her parents to let her move to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career during her freshman year of high school. Stone was homeschooled in between auditions, and she and her mother moved into an apartment there. Her first role was Laurie Partridge in The New Partridge Family, a pilot for a prospective television series, which she landed in 2005. More TV parts followed, and in 2007, Stone made her film debut in the teen comedy Superbad alongside Jonah Hill and Michael Cera.
