1. Game Over, 2019 (Tamil)

In recent years, Tamil cinema has developed an odd obsession with horror comedies, with at least two such films being released each year. However, Ashwin Saravanan’s Game Over, based on a house invasion, is one of the best horror/thrillers in recent memory. Especially in the second half, this film will have you on the edge of your seat. Game Over, starring Taapsee Pannu, is one of the greatest horror films that have been out in Tamil recently.

2. Aval, 2017 (Tamil)

Almost the whole duration of this trilingual (Gruham in Telugu and The House Next Door in Hindi) features frightening moments. The film, which stars Siddharth and Andrea in the key roles, is set in the Himalayas and revolves around an apparently haunted mansion. Aval uses well-timed scares to keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end.

Maya, a horror/thriller starring Nayanthara and directed by Ashwin Saravanan, keeps you wondering from the start. Maya has all of the components of a great horror picture, including an unexpected twist that comes when you least expect it. Although Maya’s plot isn’t very original, the film has well-executed jump scares that will keep you entertained.
