Mumtaz and Shammi Kapoor, the love birds have always been the prominent ones in Bollywood. Their love story inspired many, however, their fans didn’t get the chance to witness the two settling together and tie the knot. Opening about it, Mumtaz talked to Pink Villa revealing why she chose to not marry Shammi Kapoor.
Talking to Pink Villa, she said, “I loved him tremendously. I believe Shammiji also loved me a lot. I felt sad that I couldn’t marry him. I was only around 17. He was 18 years older than me. It was too early for me to get married. We separated with understanding. He was very sweet and caring towards me. But you can’t fight destiny. Honestly, had I got married, it wouldn’t have worked. Because I’d have always held a regret in my heart. I wanted to act. I wanted to achieve something. ”
She also added that how the Kapoors didn’t want their daughters-in-law to work in movies after marriage, which was one of the prime reasons she didn’t go further with the relationship.
She added, “The Kapoor family was strict about their bahus not working in films,”
However, Mumtaz also praised Shammi’s second wife in the course, saying, “Shammiji married such a wonderful lady, a beautiful person. Neila Deviji’s such a sweetheart. She suited him perfectly and handled him so well.” as quoted by India Tv News.
