Tom Cruise was the topic of a recent news story by James Corden, who recalled the occasion when the action actor requested to land his helicopter in the TV host’s London yard.
According to People magazine, Corden told his ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’ audience about the incident on Tuesday after news came that Cruise had landed his helicopter on a family’s garden in the United Kingdom.
Corden said, “True story about Tom Cruise. This summer no way to this without sounding like a prick, its true. This summer, me and Tom Cruise were texting about meeting up in London.”
Corden said that Cruise “sent me text saying ‘Whereabouts are you staying?’ and I said I live in St John’s Wood, ‘which is pretty central in London. He said, “Cool, can I land my helicopter there?’ And I just presumed he was joking.”
The host then took out his phone and read the text message exchange to his audience before pointing the phone toward the camera.
The messages showed Cruise had texted Corden, “What? You are here? We gotta find some time to grab some dinner. Are you at Coworth? I can land my Heli there.”
Corden replied in the texts that he will be staying in the UK until August, adding, “Would love to see you x.”
The star responded, “We are going to make that happen. Can I land my heli in your yard? T.”
“Does this mean no?” Cruise texted back after Corden sent him a succession of laughing weeping emoticons.
“I’ll measure it out,” the host replied, “but my hunch is you can’t land a helicopter in St. Johns Wood.” “You’d be surprised where I can land,” Cruise said.
Cruise startled a family in the United Kingdom earlier this month when his chopper landed in their Warwickshire lawn when the neighboring Coventry Airport was briefly shut down, according to People’s magazine.
“It turned out to be an incredible day. It was surreal, I still now can’t believe this happened.” Alison Webb.
She and her family were informed that their field was required for an unnamed “VIP who was running late,” and they were surprised to see the ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ star exit the chopper.
“I thought having the helicopter land in the lawn would be fun for the kids. It was like ‘Wow’ when he [Cruise] arrived and got out,” she stated.
