The defamation case involving Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, an ex-couple from Hollywood, captured everyone’s interest unlike any other. Depp won the defamation action and received a more than $10 million damages award after a six-week court trial. But it appears that history will be repeated soon. In the most recent development, actor Johnny Depp submitted a 44-page appellate brief on Wednesday, challenging the judgment in the defamation case against his ex-wife.

In an appellate brief, Johnny Depp claimed that the jury had ‘overwhelmingly’ favored him, according to a Law & Crime story. The brief is said to claim that “The verdict in Ms. Heard’s favor on that lone statement is erroneous,” according to the portal, which reportedly contains screenshots of the brief.

“The jury’s emphatic favorable verdict on all three defamatory statements stated in his Complaint entirely exonerated Mr. Depp and restored his character,” a 44-page appellate brief quoted as saying. In fact, Mr. Depp won in the trial court on almost all significant issues.

The statement said, “The jury’s verdict and the trial court’s judgment indicate an educated and well-reasoned conclusion on the merits following a full and fair trial, and they should be mostly (but not totally) upheld. However, the trial court was confronted with a number of innovative and complicated legal and factual issues; although the trial court handled the vast majority of those issues intelligently and correctly, a few findings were incorrect.”

Amber Heard posted a public message on Instagram not long after the defamation case was dismissed. “The disappointment I feel today is beyond words,” she wrote. “I’m even more disappointed with this verdict’s implications for other women, the speaker continued. It is a flop. It transports us back to a period when a woman who spoke up may risk public disgrace and shame. As a result, the assumption that violence against women should be taken seriously is withdrawn.”
