Actress Yamini Malhotra who was recently seen sharing the limelight on the big platform of Bigg Boss, the Colors reality show, is now all set to make her Bollywood debut. The actress who was seen in Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin on TV, and in the Punjabi films Chuttalabbayi and Main Teri Tu Mera, is now headed to make her debut in Bollywood.

She will be seen in the comedy-drama movie, Chill Maar Na Bro, directed by Tejas Dattani. Yamini talks to IWMBuzz.com, on this new opportunity and recollects her big achievements in the recent past.

Yamini talks about life after Bigg Boss 18, saying, “Before Bigg Boss, the audience that knew me through my serials recognized me by my character’s name. But after Bigg Boss, people started recognizing me as Yamini Malhotra. That’s been the most beautiful shift. The love and recognition I have received for just being myself is honestly overwhelming. What makes it even more remarkable is that people have seen the real me, connected with my personality, and found me genuinely entertaining. Because of that, I have been receiving some really good, genuine offers—and it feels amazing to be seen and valued for who I truly am.”

Talking about this big development in her career, Yamini says, “Honestly, it feels like the Universe aligned everything at the right time. When the director saw my Instagram and a few of my Bigg Boss clips, his immediate reaction was—this is my Maya. He called me in for narration, and while he was narrating the script, I found myself reacting very naturally—laughing, expressing, feeling every beat. He was quietly observing me the entire time, and at the end of it, he said, “I found you. I just want you to sign this film—I don’t want anybody else for this role.” That moment gave me goosebumps, and I instantly felt connected to the story and the character. It was all so organic.”

Talking about the film and her role, Yamini avers, “The film is called Chill Maar Na Bro, and it’s an out-and-out comedy! It’s light-hearted, super entertaining, and filled with moments that will make people jump out of their seats laughing. Every scene has that perfect punch of humour—it’s the kind of film you would watch with a tub of popcorn and a big smile.”

Elaborating on her role, she states, “I play the character Maya. She’s a bubbly, fierce, no-nonsense girl from Delhi who gets married to a film producer. Things take a turn when she gets offered two film roles—but the offers come with a condition, and that’s where all the madness begins. What follows is a total comedy of errors, with Maya right in the middle of all the chaos. The film is being directed by Tejas Dattani, and I am so excited for everyone to see this crazy ride on screen!”

Ask her whether she has deliberately kept herself away from TV fiction and she says, “Not at all! I am open to both TV and films. For me, the platform doesn’t matter as much as the character. What’s most important is that I should be able to relate to the role and feel excited about playing it. If the character has depth, is well-written, and connects with me emotionally, I am all in—whether it’s for television or the big screen.”

On her expectations from the film, she quips, “I am honestly just grateful for the opportunity. Of course, I hope the audience accepts me in this new avatar and enjoys the performance. But more than anything, I see this as a learning curve and a stepping stone to grow further in this industry.”

On the kind of roles she will want to explore next, Yamini states, “Punjabans are born nautanki—and I proudly carry that legacy! I have always had a great sense of humour. Wherever I go, people often say I am the ‘raunak’ of the party. Even in casual conversations, when I start narrating incidents from my life, people just can’t stop laughing. So yes, comedy comes very naturally to me, and I truly enjoy making people laugh. I would definitely rate myself 10 on 10 in this genre!”

Best of luck!!
