Review of Jhootha Kahin Ka: The Sunny-Omkar duo lives up to the expected comedy level and Rishi Kapoor back on screen is like a breath of fresh air!

Movie Name: Jhootha Kahin Ka

Cast: Rishi Kapoor, Omkar Kapoor, Sunny Singh, Jimmy Shergill, Manoj Joshi, Lillete Dubey, Rajesh Sharma, Pujita Ponnada, Nimisha Mehta.

Direction: Smeep Kang

Rating: 3.5 stars.

Comedy as a genre works wonders at the box office. But the audience is well within its rights as to whether they like a subtle sense of comedy or the over the top way of it. The film ‘Jhootha Kahin Ka’ however falls into the latter category. If you are someone whose main purpose to enter a movie hall and spend 2-3 hours inside is just to entertain yourself, then this is the movie you need to watch.

The story revolves around the friendship and bond shared by Omkar Kapoor, aka Varun, and his friend Sunny Singh, aka Karan. Both blokes live in Mauritius where Varun falls in love with Ria aka Nimisha Mehta. However, their relationship starts with a lie at the root of it. Varun lies to Ria that he is an orphan and hence, once they marry, he will settle down in Ria’s abode. This lie to pacify Ria is because Ria’s father, Manoj Joshi is restricted to a wheelchair due to which she decides to be a pillar of support for her father and not leave him in distress to get married.

On the other hand, Karan too lies to his brother, Tommy, aka Jimmy Shergill, that he has married Ria who is from a rich family. The sole reason behind this is because Tommy is hell-bent on getting his brother married to a rich girl. The truth is that Sunny actually loves a girl who isn’t the richest around, and hence he faces difficulty as well.

However, the main problem presents itself when Rishi Kapoor, who plays the role of Varun’s father, ends up in Mauritius out of the blue because he is missing his dearest son. Accompanying him to Mauritius is none other than Rajesh Sharma, who plays the role of his maternal uncle. This is where all the trouble arises and both Varun and Karan struggle immensely to live up to their lies in order to avoid getting exposed. However, eventually as expected, every lie comes to and it is a happy go lucky situation for all.

IWMBuzz Verdict: The writing, the direction, and the screenplay are decent and the actors have done a good job. The camaraderie between Sunny Singh and Omkar Kapoor looks like a continuation from what we had last seen in ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2’. However, the biggest positive that emerges out of this movie is none other than Chintu Kaps, aka Rishi Kapoor, who simply nails it with his performance. Chintu still has a lot in himself to continue nailing roles like this. However, what could have been a little better is the pace at which the narrative flows. Also, one must understand that to make a comedy movie, you need not fill the whole bubble because too much of it can lead to a burst and sometimes, not so wanted dialogues and scenes. Overall, the film is a must-watch if you are all into fun, comedy and 2-3 hours of entertainment, without digging too deep into the practical side of it.
