Amazon Studios and Excel Entertainment have announced a theatrical film adaptation of the popular crime thriller OTT franchise Mirzapur, created by Puneet Krishna. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, the film will bring back fan-favorite characters including Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi), Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal), and Munna Tripathi (Divyenndu), as well as Abhishek Banerjee as the Compounder, among other characters. Set to release in 2026, the film marks a significant leap from the streaming platform to the big screen.

Following the success of Mirzapur Season 3, the film aims to expand the world of the franchise, delivering a cinematic experience that goes beyond the series.

Producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar of Excel Entertainment reflected on this development as a milestone for the Mirzapur franchise. They highlighted that the characters and powerful storytelling have connected with fans across three seasons and said mentioned how moving forward, Mirzapur to the big screen allows fans to fully immerse themselves in this world, offering an experience that honors their dedication. Collaborating with Prime Video once again, they aim to bring the show’s intensity and story to a larger platform for audiences to enjoy in a whole new way.

What’s interesting about this is that in the announcement, none of the female characters were introduced thus leaving all possibilities to open. Will we see the same actors like Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Rasika Dugal, Shriya Pilgaonkar and more play their iconic roles of Golu, Beena and Sweety respectively for the film? We would never know.
Another interesting factor is that Vikrant Massey, who played Munna in the first season was also not seen in the announcement – so will it be after the events of Season 1?
We can only wait and see.
