Bollywood is at the cusp of a revolution. Content and storyline have increasingly taken precedence over star power, proof being the glut of recent hits that have made it at the box office, solely on the strength of their out-of-the-box storylines.
Back in 2003, however, it was still star power that ruled the roost at the BO, with filmmakers sticking to tried and tested narratives to deliver hits.
Bang in the midst of it all was released a sparkler calledGangaajal. Yes, it was way back in 2003 thatPrakashJha’s cinematic piece de resistance, Gangaajal hit the theatres. Starring Ajay Devgn, along with an outstanding ensemble cast, the flick instantly grabbed people’s attention with its brutally raw narrative and intelligent proposition.
Many things stood out in Gangaajal, making it an instantaneous hit – the brilliance of the script, its raw honest characters and compelling sequences are the stuff of legends. The movie has acquired cult status amongst cinema enthusiasts.
Today, Gangaajal completed 16 years of release, and none other than its leading man Ajay Devgn took to Twitter to celebrate the milestone. He remembered the film and its no-nonsense premise in an uplifting tweet. Read the tweet here-
16 years of #Gangaajal. A film that was an eye-opener on corruption, caste-politics and other social evils. Found the right voice at the right time.

We wholeheartedly agree with what Ajay Devgn has said in his tweet. And more power to meaningful cinema like Gangaajal!
