Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar are joining hands for a much-anticipated film based on the life of C. Sankaran Nair, set during the period of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. The film, which was first reported to be in development by Zoom, now has an official release date. It is scheduled to hit theaters on March 14, 2025.
The untitled project stars Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, and R Madhavan in pivotal roles. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and co-produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film draws inspiration from real events and is adapted from the book The Case That Shook The Empire: One Man’s Fight for the Truth about the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. The book, authored by Sankaran Nair’s great-grandson Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, serves as the foundation for the film’s story.
Akshay Kumar portrays C. Sankaran Nair, a key figure who challenged the British Empire and sought to expose the atrocities of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. According to sources close to the project, the film will depict Nair’s relentless efforts to seek justice and highlight the horrors of colonial rule in India.
The production team has worked extensively to recreate historical settings for the film, including a large-scale Jallianwala Bagh set in Goregaon, Mumbai, and locations in Delhi’s Jama Masjid. The post-production phase is currently underway, with special attention given to ensuring the accurate portrayal of India and London during that era.
The film is expected to deliver a compelling narrative about one man’s courageous stand against the British regime, with Akshay Kumar leading a strong ensemble cast. Fans can look forward to the film’s release in March 2025.
