The Bengali film industry is abuzz with the resounding success of “Bohurupi,” directed by the acclaimed duo Nandita Roy and Shiboaprosad Mukherjee. Cinema hall owners are thrilled as the movie maintains its grip on single-screen theaters, defying post-Puja blues.
Suranjan Pal, owner of Minar and Bijli cinema halls, exclaimed, “Nandita Roy and Shiboaprosad Mukherjee have proven once again that the audience has immense faith in this directorial duo. They believe this partnership delivers good films. Shiboprosad’s acting prowess shines through in his direction.” Pal noted that his theaters witnessed unprecedented footfall even after Puja, with “Bohurupi” scoring a century on Sunday in almost houseful halls.
Joydeep Mukhopadhyay, owner of Star Theater, revealed, “This is the first time I’ve given three shows to a movie after Puja. Last Saturday and Sunday, all three shows were house-full. I hesitated to give a night show after Puja, but the audience response surprised me.” Mukhopadhyay quoted Shiboprosad saying, “Did Dada manage to keep his mouth shut?” highlighting the film’s word-of-mouth appeal.
Arijit Dutt, owner of Priya Cinema Hall, observed, “Even after Puja, every show is almost full. People feel good. I hope they’ll enjoy upcoming films, too.” Dutt emphasized the significance of Bohurupi’s success, stating, “It was necessary after a long time.”
Prabir Roy, owner of Ashoka Cinema Hall, predicted, “This film will create many new records. Any Bengali film hasn’t seen the collection at the box office for a long time.” Roy confirmed that all shows were successful during Puja, with “Bohurupi” maintaining its momentum.
Notably, “Bohurupi,” starring Abir Chatterjee, Ritabhari Chakraborty, Koaushani Mukherjee, and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, has secured the top spot on Wikipedia’s list of the highest-grossing Bengali movies.
Cinema hall owners unanimously attribute “Bohurupi”‘s triumph to Nandita Roy and Shiboaprosad Mukherjee’s exceptional storytelling and direction. The film captivates audiences, and its box office success reinvigorates the single-screen cinema experience.
