This week was undoubtedly one of the biggest clashes in Indian cinema for quite a long time. This week, we saw two big films clashing in the box office. On one hand, we had Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan which was positioned as the ideal family film to watch on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. On the other hand, we had Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ releasing which is the official adaptation of ‘The Forrest Gump’, a blockbuster film from the year 1994. Given the fact that Hindi movies weren’t doing great off-late, it was extremely important that both these movies fare well at the box office.
Well, as far as the start is concerned, we see both the movies having an average start. By average, we mean the complete potential wasn’t perhaps realized given the fact that both movies have humongous stars.
On day 1, reports in Times Of India and Hindustan Times suggest that Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan earned around 8 crores whereas, on the other hand, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha earned around Rs 11.50 crores on Day 1. Given the fact that both superstars have earlier had humongous openings in cinemas, the numbers are certainly a shock and a matter of major disappointment.
Well, all we can say is that we hope the numbers get better in the coming few days as it is extremely important and essential for the industry overall.
