Dev’s Journey from Acting to Production: A Story of Necessity and Passion

In a candid conversation with Kunal Ghosh over coffee, Dev, the popular Bengali actor, opened up about his unexpected foray into filmmaking. Dev’s production company has produced 12 films, which is remarkable in just seven years, with notable releases like Tekka, Khadaan, and Binodini on the atmosphere.

The change in Dev’s production stemmed from frustration with the limited creative opportunities in Bengali cinema. In 2014, he was offered uninspiring projects, with producers focusing on southern remakes. The need for more quality producers and investment in Tollywood has exacerbated the issue.

“I was not given the kind of work I wanted,” Dev confessed. “I thought I would die if I depended on other producers.” This realization ignited a hunger to take matters into his own hands.

Armed with his savings, the god got involved in manufacturing. His production company’s first film was released in 2017, and it was the beginning of a successful journey.

Upcoming Projects:

Tekka, directed by Srijit Mukherji and starring Dev, Swastika Mukherjee, and Rukmini Maitra, will be released on 8 October during Puja.
Khadan, featuring Dev and Jisshu Sengupta, hit theaters on Christmas.
Binodini, Dev as a producer, featuring Rukmini Maitra in the lead, slated for January 2025.

Dev’s Vision for Bengali Cinema:

Dev aims to use this approach to bridge the creative gap in Bengali cinema. His mission is to create possibilities for accomplished artists and writers with a wide range of interests.

As Dev’s production company continues flourishing, his determination to revive Bengali cinema is evident. With so much excitement, audiences can expect even better stories and excitement.

Dev’s transition from existence to filmmaking is a testament to his anger towards Bengali cinema. By seizing her creative future, she has ensured her artistic growth and paved the way for new skills and contemporary storytelling in the industry.
