From Sharing Breastfeeding Photos To Opting For Unconventional Weddings, Times When Bollywood Actresses Broke Stereotypes

When Bollywood actresses broke stereotypes.

Bollywood stars are known for making unconventional choices in life and we can’t admire them more for breaking away from certain taboos that exist in our society. They don’t shy away from taking the route less taken or even the one that’s never been taken. It is said that change comes slowly and subtly in a society. Looks like these Bollywood stars are taking the first step toward change.

From Katrina Kaif to Dia Mirza, these celebrities have ditched the old and outdated ways of getting married. They’ve brought in a whiff of freshness with their unique weddings. These stars ditched some of the old traditions at their weddings and introduced new and relevant ones. They made sure they broke some age-old stereotypes and led others in the same direction.

Katrina Kaif: At her December 2021 wedding with Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif proved she walks the talk. The actress on her big day walked the aisle with her sisters holding ‘phoolon ki chaadar’ for her. Mostly, this ritual is carried out by the bride’s brothers or her male cousins. But, for the actress, her sisters held the phoolon ki chaadar as they were always by her side throughout her life as a pillar.

Patralekhaa: In our Indian society, there is a wedding ritual of putting sindoor also known as vermilion on the bride’s forehead by the groom. Recently, Rajkummar Rao, who married his long-time partner Patralekhaa, together broke the stereotype of putting vermilion. At this celebrity wedding, as Rajkumar Rao put the red vermillion on Partalekha’s head, he insisted Patralekha to put sindoor on his forehead too. Rajkumar Rao stole all hearts as he said “Tum bhi lga do” to Patralekha on their wedding day, hinting her to apply vermillion on his forehead as well.

Dia Mirza: The actress got married to her beau Vaibhav Rekhi in a private ceremony. The ever so gorgeous actress chose to wear a red saree for her big day. The special attention that we caught from her wedding was the role of a priest. The couple chose to take their wedding vows in presence of a female priestess by breaking the old belief of having a male priest.

Apart from weddings, there are several actresses in Bollywood who’ve broken stereotypes when it comes to pregnancy, flaunting Baby bumps, breastfeeding, and more. Kareena Kapoor Khan showed off her massive baby bump, effortlessly, during an ad shoot. She wore a pink tracksuit and sports bra and flaunted her baby bump with utmost pride. The actress was expecting her second child, Jehangir Ali Khan back then. Anushka Sharma had also shared a glorious picture of her in a black monokini, flaunting her baby bump. Anushka managed to empower many pregnant women with her daring photo. She was expecting her daughter Vamika Kohli back then.

Evelyn Sharma, who welcomed her first child last year had taken to her Instagram to share a picture while breastfeeding her baby girl, Ava. She later faced severe backlash for the breastfeeding pic too but reacted with a savage reply. She told Hindustan Times, “Such images show vulnerability and strength at the same time. I find it beautiful. Breastfeeding is one of the most natural and healthy things to do. And it really is why women have breasts in the first place. So why be shy about it?” Actress Shveta Salve shared a beautiful picture with her daughter Arya. She made the post during World Breastfeeding Week and penned a long caption along with the picture. In the caption, Salve spoke about feeling fear to share the image on Instagram. She worried about her daughter Arya’s future reaction and being trolled.

We should certainly take inspiration from these Bollywood stars and not hesitate to break free from society’s restrictions and barriers.
