There’s a funny saying in Bollywood that if your ‘karma’ is in the right place, ‘Dharma’ too will be by your side. Well, who has proven this line better than the head honcho of Dharma Productions himself, Karan Johar? He’s one of the most charming and respected personalities in the business of movies and no wonder whenever celebrities say, “Tere liye waqt aur jaan kabhi bhi hazir hai Karan…”, they mean it in the true sense of the term. Karan too has valued and cherished his relations in the industry always and that’s why he’s never been in two minds when it comes to taking a stand or supporting the people who mean the world to him.
While we all had a perception that Karan Johar is perhaps the only director/producer from the Hindi entertainment industry who can get all the stars, ranging from the ‘Khan trinity’ of Bollywood to the modern-day hunks and damsels all under one roof and at the same time, he managed to make that happen for real on his 50th birthday bash. The who’s who of the industry were present and Bollywood hadn’t seen such a feast and merry occasion for a long time. The Covid-19 pandemic too played a spoilsport when it came to hosting big parties with huge turnouts and that’s why this will go down in history as one of the biggest Bollywood parties of this decade. Well, Karan Johar truly managed to flex and show his power like a ‘boss’ indeed on that day.
However, more than the turnout in itself, what was heartwarming to see is that the entire industry had gathered under the same roof just for their love and admiration towards Karan. Nobody gave a damn about their past quarrels or affairs with other stars and that’s why the importance and relevance of being there for Karan was a lot more than thinking about having any possible awkwardness around their past love interest. If one takes a close look at the history of Bollywood parties, we can’t pinpoint one such event where so many exes were comfortable in each other’s presence and that too for such a long time. While Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput were happy in each other’s presence, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan too posed happily for the paparazzi and Karan. While Ranbir Kapoor made a solo entry as his wife Alia was busy shooting with Gal Gadot abroad, he didn’t have any hiccups being around his ex-girlfriend, Katrina Kaif and her husband, Vicky Kaushal, someone with whom he’s also shared screen space in ‘Sanju’. Salman Khan too made a late “Dabangg” entry and going by all the happy faces that we saw in the ‘inside party’ snaps, Bhaijaan certainly didn’t have any awkwardness being around the likes of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, her husband Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and her husband, Vicky Kaushal. There was a photo from the party that went viral that showed Abhishek and Salman in the same frame, not too far from each other. While Salman was posing for a click, Abhishek was seen in the background just behind having a conversation with someone else. Well, that in itself is a big giveaway and nobody picked any ‘safe corner’ inside the premise to avoid any awkwardness. Aamir Khan too made an entry at the party with his ex-wife Kiran Rao and both of them successfully managed to give ‘best friend’ vibes to the paparazzi with their smiling moments. However, without any element of doubt, the biggest highlight of the extravaganza was having Hrithik Roshan-Saba Azad and Arsalan Goni-Sussane Khan under the same roof. Ever since Hrithik and Sussanne separated, they moved on and happily found love once again in Saba Azad and Arsalan Goni respectively. There were no reports of any awkwardness or animosity from inside the party venue. The most adorable thing is Saba and Sussanne are ‘good friends’ while both Hrithik and Arsalan were spotted twinning in black tailored suits. Sounds attractive and amazing, isn’t it?
Well, one thing is loud and clear after this bashment hosted by Karan Johar. No longer are ex-couples in Bollywood looking forward to hiding from each other in public or planning their time of ‘entry’ and ‘exit’ at a social gathering just to ensure they don’t come face-to-face with someone who’s been an integral part of their past lives. On a genuine note, it was soul-stirring and gratifying to see so many celebrities touch down at Yash Raj that day adjusting their respective schedules just for one man, Karan Johar. Not sure if anyone else has the power to get so many superstars all under the same roof at the same time without making them give a damn about their future commitments or past relationships. KJo, you certainly deserve this after 27 years of efforts, repute and notability. Kudos.
