After the rigorous promotion and marketing, Aamir Khan is in a state of shock at the low boxoffice numbers for Laal Singh Chaddha. The film has opened as low as 10-15 percent in several centres.
This is by far the lowest opening collection for any recent Aamir Khan starrer. His last release Thugs Of Hindostan, though a major boxoffice disaster, had opened at Rs 52 crores.
The pandemic seems to have changed the boxoffice equation irreversibly.
Suman Sinha a leading Bihar exhibitor says, “The opening of Laal Singh Chaddha is really very discouraging. Aamir Khan’s films are known to get an impressive opening always. This is the first time I’ve seen such low collections for an Aamir starrer. And it’s unlikely to get any better because audiences have not really liked the film. Remaking a forty-year old Hollywood classic(Forrest Gump) doesn’t seem like a good idea.”
Is Laal Singh Chaddha a casualty of the cancel-culture?
“I don’t think the call for boycott affects any film. Audiences like a film, they will go,don’t like a film, won’t go. Sometimes they don’t like a film after seeing the trailer,” says a director who has worked with Aamir in the past.
