Is James Cameron’s Avatar: The Power Of Water overestimating its power over the Indian boxoffice? The eagerly awaited sequel to Cameron’s classic released in 2009 remains one of the most beloved American films of all times in every part of the world.
The sequel which opens today seems to have oversold itself to the audience. Having booked 90 percent of theatres in Mumbai and other centres for various versions of Avatar: The Power Of Water(2D, 3D, Imax 3D, 3D Screen X, 4DX 3D, MX 4D 3D in Hindi, English , Tamil & Telugu) Avatar now faces a crisis of excessive shows.
Several opening-day shows slotted for post-midnight in Mumbai had to be cancelled due to “extremely poor attendance”, according to sources.
“Avatar is not a Rajinikanth or Vijay starrer that audiences will line up at midnight and 3 am to watch it. They definitely overestimated the demand for Avatar,” states a personnel from a prominent multiplex chain on condition of anonymity.
