With the pandemic showing no signs of disappearing, the movie business has begun to look at the question of theatrical release in a new light. With the two August releases Bell Bottom and Chehre showing abysmal boxoffice collections, stubborn filmmakers who were determined to release in theatres are now re-examining their earlier stance.
S S Rajamouli’s RRR, the big-screen explosion which has been postponed several times recently got a new release date : 13 October 2021.But now it seems completely out of the question that this long-awaited film would actually keep its new date with the audience.
In fact one member of the film’s team told me that a call has been taken to postpone the film further.
“It’s not releasing on 13th or anywhere close to it. Almost everyone in the team favours a digital release for RRR except Raja Sir(director S S Rajamouli) who won’t hear of it. But how long can we wait for theatres to re-open?” a source from the RRR team wonders.
In all probability Rajamouli would just have to give in to the idea of a digital release for RRR. That, sadly, is the new normal and he would have to come to terms with it.
