Vidhu Vinod Chopra has been a pioneer in the Indian Film Industry for many years. The man has been behind some of India’s best content-driven films, the likes of Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, Mission Kashmir, PK, Sanju & many more.
If there’s one thing that has always been consistent in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s films, it is the presence of big stars. Be it Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt or Ranbir Kapoor, they all have worked with Vidhu.
But with ‘Shikara’, things have been different with Vidhu. Not only did he launch two new faces, but he also made a film on a very serious subject, the Kashmir riots and how several Kashmiri pundits were demolished and removed from their homeland overnight in 1990. Talking about the same, Vidhu shared and we quote –
‘This film has been very challenging for me emotionally. Because it’s real and based on reality. Like for example, Lagey Raho Munna Bhai was more challenging to me than 3 Idiots because it had Mahatma Gandhi and so we had to be respectful to Bapu. But this was 100 times more challenging than even Lagey Raho. Imagine 4 lakh pundits being removed overnight from their homeland. Can we imagine the same happening with us? It’s so scary. ‘
Recalling more about his challenges, he added,
‘ My biggest fear was how to entertain people. It’s a full-on commercial movie for which people will pay money for the tickets. I have to entertain them. So how to balance the entertainment quotient while simultaneously giving a strong message, it was the most difficult task for me.’
Kudos to Vidhu for making such a realistic film and for dedicating the same to his mother. For more updates, stay tuned to IWMBuzz.com
