The last time we witnessed such a stampede at the boxoffice it was for Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior , and that was in January 2020.
Now Sooryavanshi is the first certifiable blockbuster since Tanhaji .During the first four days of its release it has collected approximately Rs 85 crores. By the end of the week it is expected to cross the 100-crore mark.
Says Suman Sinha, a leading exhibitor of Patna, “So far all shows have been full in my theatre. Hats off to Mr Rohit Shetty who was always confident of his product. Very few producer-directors would have the guts to hold a release for 20 months.”
Says Mumbai’s leading film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi, “The entire entertainment industry and the Sooryavanshi team and all of exhibitors associated with Sooryavanshi are delighted by the success. Not only has it brought the audiences back into cinemas, Sooryavanshi has also given them a reason to smile after one-and-a-half years of suffering and misery because of the pandemic. It has given the audience a reason to cheer as a community. That’s the biggest victory of Sooryavanshi.”
Rathi feels the success of Sooryavanshi would have far-reaching repercussions. “ Its success will impact not only those associated with this film but also all those associated with forthcoming films. Now that the ice has broken and the habit of seeing films in theatres has been revived all the forthcoming films like Satyamev Jayate 2, Jersey, Bunty Aur Babli 2 and Antim will benefit.”
