The SamBahadur cast will be joined by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, who will take on challenging roles in the movie directed by Meghna Gulzar. The announcement of their inclusion coincided with Gulzar’s birthday and is based on the life of Sam Manekshaw, one of India’s greatest war heroes.
Manekshaw had a military career that spanned four decades and five wars, becoming the first Indian Army officer to reach the rank of Field Marshal. Additionally, he led the Indian Army to a decisive victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war as the Chief of Army Staff. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1971 war.
Vicky Kaushal portrays the lead character, while Sanya Malhotra plays the role of his wife, Silloo – a source of support and stability for Manekshaw. Fatima Sana Shaikh takes on the role of Indira Gandhi, India’s first female Prime Minister.
Director Meghna Gulzar expresses her excitement as the Sam Bahadur family expands and says, “I have much to celebrate… There is pride in the commemoration of 50 years of the historic win of our forces in the 1971 War. And it’s very exciting to have Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh join the team of SamBahadur.
