The insider-outsider debate raging on in and around Bollywood is not only complicated it is also irrelevant and invalid . There is no way we can clearly demarcate an outsider from an insider in the entertainment industry, and I am not just talking about the Hindi film industry.

Even in the South Indian film industry, yesterday’s outsider is today’s insider. When Vijay Deverakonda broke the bastion of nepotism in the Telugu film industry we applauded him, and cheered him on as he took on the privileged star children of Andhra on their own home ground.

But hang on! Vijay’s brother also decided he could act, just as Anurag Kashyap’s brother and even his sister decided they could direct a film, and they are within their rights to do.And Kashyap is supposed to be the archetypal smalltown genius wriggling into Karan Johar’s durbar.

The point to note is, yesterday’s outsider is today’s insider. Ayushmann Khurrana who epitomized the spirit of the brave outsider battling nepotism, is today happy to have his brother taking to the acting profession. And we are happy to have Aparshakti on screen as he is an engaging actor. We will probably be happy to have Ayushmann’s wife Tahira Kashyap in the film industry. Yes, she is turning director.I can’t wait to see what she does.

The nepotism debate is irrelevant because there is no division between outsiders and insiders in the film industry. Everyone is welcome.Today’s outsider is tomorrow’s insider. Ayushmann claims Karan Johar didn’t take his call at the start of his career.

That’s okay, Ayushmann. Now I am sure you don’t take many calls either.

It’s the law Nature. What goes up must look down on those less
