Aamir Khan divorce
On July 3, the Dangal actor took his fans and netizens by surprise as he announced his separation from his wife Kiran Rao, after 15 years of marriage. The couple further released that it was a mutual decision, and will also continue to co-parent their son Azad Rao Khan. The two shared a long statement, saying, “We remain devoted parents to our son Azad, who we will nurture and raise together. We will also continue to work as collaborators on films, Paani Foundation, and other projects that we feel passionate about. A big thank you to our families and friends for their constant support and understanding about this evolution in our relationship, and without whom we would not have been so secure in taking this leap. We request our well-wishers for good wishes and blessings, and hope that – like us – you will see this divorce not as an end, but as the start of a new journey”.
Alia Bhatt Kanyadan Ad
Alia Bhatt shot to headlines after her Kanyadan ad sparked controversy. The Gully Boy actress received backlash from all the corners on social media. The advertisement led by a bridal wear brand stated that the Ritual of ‘Kanyadaan’ should be renamed and redefined as ‘Kanyamaan’. Soon after, Kangana Ranaut took it to her Instagram handle and called out Alia Bhatt and wrote, “Humble request to all brands ….. don’t use religion, minority, majority politics to sell things …. Stop manipulating naïve consumer with shrewd divisive concepts and advertising,”
Aryan Khan arrested in connection to drug bust
Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was arrested by The Narcotics Control Bureau, in connection to drugs. He was nabbed by NCB from a cruise ship, which was hosting a rave party, reportedly. Aaryan spent more than 3 weeks inside the jail, till the Bombay High Court found that he had no drugs in person, however was asked to mark weekly attendance at the NCB office, but has been given relief from that as well, of now.
IT raids on Taapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap
The income tax department raided the properties of Taapsee Pannu and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in March. Few days after Taapsee Pannu took it to her Twitter handle and stated, “3 days of intense search of 3 things primarily 1. The keys of the “alleged” bungalow that I apparently own in Paris. Because summer holidays are around the corner. 2. The “alleged” receipt worth 5 crores to frame n keep for future pitching coz I’ve been refused that money before.” She concluded the thread by adding, “3. My memory of the 2013 raid that happened with me according to our honourable finance minister. P.S- “not so sasti” anymore.”
Jacqueline Fernandes connection to conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar
Jacqueline Fernandez was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for being involved in the money laundering case, led by conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. It was reported that the Kick actress received several expensive gifts from the conman. Jacqueline Fernandez, who was travelling to Dubai was restricted at the airport and was summoned by ED, and has been barred from travelling overseas.
Kangana Ranaut’s Bheek Remark
Kangana Ranaut’s bizarre ‘Bheek’ remark on India’s independence led to a serious outrage all across the country. The actress at an event stated that the country truly earned its independence in “2014” when Narendra Modi led party BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) came to power and stated the country’s independence in 1947 was ‘bheek’ (Alms).
Kareena Kapoor Sita controversy
Kareena Kapoor hit the headlines in August for demanding 12 crores to play the role, Sita in Alaukik Desai’s directorial, ‘Sita – The Incarnation’. However, the film’s writer denied that Kareena had ever been approached for the role in the first place, yet the controversy shone in the limelight for a few weeks. Netizens even went on calling out Kareena Kapoor ‘Khan’; made personal attacks.
Raj Kundra arrested in pornography case
Raj Kundra, businessman and Shilpa Shetty’s husband was arrested in connection to distributing pornography videos through his apps. However, the couple kept silent throughout the trials, until Shilpa Shetty released a statement on social media asking netizens to respect their privacy. The actress even got back to work after Raj Kundra’s arrest, followed by her film’s release, Hungama 2. The businessman was granted bail in September.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu-Naga Chaitnaya Divorce
The rumour of the power-couple getting divorced sparked soon after Samantha dropped Akkineni from her surname on Instagram. However, after rounds of rumours sprawling for weeks, the couple confirmed their separation news on Instagram. However, when the rumours were hitting headlines, Samantha Ruth Prabhu was horrifically called out by netizens, who accused her of ‘extra-marital affairs’ and even went further venting that she didn’t want ‘kids’. Later, Samantha took it to her Instagram and clarified, “Thank you all for showing deep empathy, concern and for defending me against false rumours and stories that are being spread. They say I had affairs, never wanted children, that I am an opportunist and now that I have had abortions,” she added, “A divorce in itself is an extremely painful process. Let alone allowing me the time to heal. This attack on me personally, has been relentless. But I promise you this, I will never allow this or anything else they say, break me,”
Tandav Controversy
Tandav the Amazon Prime Web Series hailed ‘Tandav’ in reality all across the country. Several FIRs against the filmmakers, actors and the OTT platform. The makers faced criminal cases for hurting religious sentiments. Later, Ali Abbas Zafar, the director released a statement for hurting sentiments, and said, “The web series Tandav is a work of fiction and any resemblance to acts and persons and events is purely coincidental. The cast and crew did not have any intention to offend the sentiments of any individual, caste, community, race, religion or religious beliefs or insult or outrage any institution, political party or person, living or dead. The cast and crew of Tandav take cognisance of the concerns expressed by the people and unconditionally apologise if it has unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments.”
