The year 2022 can be regarded as a year that can be easily forgotten in the history of Bollywood releases. The year saw a huge number of releases, and actors from the top league to the lesser-known ones were put to test with their big releases. The result is that out of so many films that got released in the year 2022, only five Bollywood films can be called as ‘Hits’. The trend we can easily say, for the year 2022, was that many of the big and popular names failed to deliver, with their films sinking without any notice.
So here we are, at IWMBuzz.com, giving you our next Year Ender story for 2022, with a list of the Bollywood hits and pits!!
So here we go!! First let us have a look at the big hits of 2022.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2: This film coming from Anees Bazmee’s banner and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar laid to rest all doubts of whether this sequel film will be at par. Being a sequel to the 2007 release film, this Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani and Tabu starrer film broke all realms and went on to demonstrate its supremacy in theatres. The film released theatrically on 20 May 2022. The film has gone on to earn as much as Rs. 266.88 crore in India, and is the third-highest-grossing film in 2022.
Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva: This action and adventure film of Ayan Mukherji is the first Bollywood film which was planned to be part of a cinematic universe called Astraverse. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, with Shah Rukh Khan coming for a very important cameo, the movie rose and flourished. The film was released in theatres on 9 September. The film was the first release after Ranbir and Alia’s marriage, and this was a biggie for their fans. The film has earned Rs 431 crore worldwide, making it the fifth highest-grossing
Indian film.
Drishyam 2: This crime thriller film which is based on the Mohanlal starrer Malayalam blockbuster, did extremely well at the box office. Being one of the last releases in the year 2022, it went on to surpass the expectations of one and all. This Ajay Devgn, Tabu starrer film had the surprise package of Akshaye Khanna in it. The film is going strong even now in theatres. As of now, it has earned Rs 339.62 crore and is the 2nd highest-grossing Hindi film in 2022.
Gangubai Kathiawadi: The biographical crime drama film coming from Sanjay Leela Bhansali starred Alia Bhatt, Shatanu Maheshwari, Ajay Devgn. The film was loosely based on the true story of Ganga Jagjivandas Kathiawadi, popularly known as Gangubai Kothewali, whose life was documented in the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by S. Hussain Zaidi. The film depicts the rise of a simple girl from Kathiawad who had no choice but to embrace the ways of destiny and swing it in her favour. The film has done well to be the fifth-highest-grossing Hindi film in 2022.
The Kashmir Files: The film written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri presented a fictional story plot which hovered around the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir. The film had Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, and others playing central roles. The film grossed Rs 340.92 crore worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing Hindi film in 2022.
Apart from this, the Dharma Productions film Jug Jugg Jeeyo did extremely well, and turned out to be a decent hit. The same can be said for the Amar Kaushik directed film Bhediya. It went on to be a hit. Both Jug Jugg Jeeyo and Bhediya were Varun Dhawan starrer films, thus upholding the actor’s image and popularity.
After having listed out the Bollywood hits in 2022, we get on with the flops and disasters that Bollywood has witnessed in 2022. The startling fact here is that all these films had extremely popular actors in lead roles. So read it for yourself.
An Action Hero: This action comedy thriller film directed by Anirudh Iyer, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Jaideep Ahlawat, was a 30 crore budgeted film which earned a meagre Rs 15.8 crore. A total disaster in terms of box office is what we would say. Something very unexpected for an actor of the calibre of Ayushmann Khurrana.
Bachchhan Paandey: Akshay Kumar, the Khiladi of Bollywood simply did not have his way in the year 2022. All of his films flopped and he had as many as 5 films. This action comedy film of Sajid Nadiadwala starring Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez, failed miserably at the box office. The remake of the 2014 film Jigarthanda, the film literally bombed at the box office. It was one of the biggest dampeners in 2022.
Cirkus: If the year was not of Akshay Kumar’s, it was definitely not of Ranveer Singh’s too. This period comedy film produced by Rohit Shetty has turned out to be yet another disaster in the year 2022. The film set on two sets of identical twins, is a pathetic try to come up with something like the evergreen Sanjeev Kumar and Deven Verma starrer film Angoor. The film turned out to be one of the biggest commercial failures of the year.
Dhaakad: This 2022 film directed by Razneesh Ghai was supposed to be a biggie release for Kangana Ranaut. However, what happened was that the film opened to empty theatres with literally none coming to sample the film. Kangana Ranaut, Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta were totally admonished by fans for this very mediocre effort of theirs. Again, this film is one of the biggest flops of 2022.
Laal Singh Chaddha: The Hindi comedy-drama film produced by Aamir Khan Productions was the remake of the 1994 American film Forrest Grump. The film starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh was a total disaster. It opened to mixed to negative reviews. The film which was budgeted at Rs 180 crore could only manage to make less than Rs 90 crore in its first week. A big-time failure.
Samrat Prithviraj: Yet another debacle of the year for Akshay Kumar. This Yash Raj Films picture was based on the life and journey of Prithviraj Chauhan, the Rajput king from the Chahamana dynasty. The film opened to mixed to negative reviews, with the authenticity of the real story of the past put up in the film being questioned. Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chillar and others could not save it from having a disgraced fall at the box office.
Vikram Vedha: This action thriller film directed by Pushkar-Gayathri was based on the Tamil film with the same name. The film boasted a mighty cast, with Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Radhika Apte being in the main cast. Nothing could save this film. Even though the film opened to positive reviews, it underperformed, thus leading it to be a flop.
Many other big banner films like Shamshera (Ranbir Kapoor), Ek Villain Returns (John Abraham), Jersey (Shahid Kapoor), Jayeshbhai Jordaar (Ranveer Singh), Liger (Vijay Deverakonda) failed miserably at the box-office.
Here is the list of the hits and flops in Bollywood. You can choose your favourite and the worst films according to you.
