Like many of us, the outspoken actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha too is baffled by the impact of Rihanna’s tweet .
“Yeh kaun sa raag darbaari Rihanna ne chhed diya? This is the first time that an individual’s tweet has been given a reply on the Government’s twitter handle. We’re giving undue important to REEEHAAANA. Please note she is not Rehana. She is not from Pakistan. She is a West-Indian American and a huge name in American entertainment. American entertainers like Susan Sarandon , Meryl Streep have always spoken up on global issues. Why are we so touchy about Rihanna’s comment? Aur bechari ne kya bola? ‘Why are we not talking about this?’ What’s wrong with Rihanna and her fan club talking about our kissan bhai log?”
Shatruji says speaking on international issues is a global phenomenon. “When the students’ revolt happened at the Tienanmen Square in China the whole world spoke up. India regularly comments on happenings in other countries. And rightly so. Why is Rihanna or for that matter Greta Thunberg commenting on kissans such a big insult for us?”
The forthright actor politician also comments on the silence on the kissan issue in the entertainment industry. “Yeh log badi badi baatein sirf parde par banaate hain. There is a world of difference between the reel and real heroes.”
As for the protesting farmers harbouring terror elements Shatruji shakes his head in the negative. “I won’t buy the terror angle until there is proof of it. This Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu who is being called a traitor… I won’t brand him anything. To me he is innocent until proven guilty.”
