Miranda Cosgrove is the face of many people’s childhoods. Cosgrove rose to fame as Carly Shay on Nickelodeon’s iCarly from 2007 to 2012, as well as its 2021 revival on Paramount. She was named the highest-paid child actor of 2012. The show was a major part of pop culture in the 2010s, earning a Primetime Emmy nomination for Best Outstanding Children’s Program. She previously starred as Megan Parker in Drake & Josh from 2004 until 2007. Cosgrove, like a slew of other former Nickelodeon and Disney stars, tried her hand at music. Sparks Fly, the Kids’ Choice Award-winning actress’s debut album, was released in April 2020 and signified her break from the teen idol persona.

Sparks Fly features producers from Dr. Luke, The Matrix, Espionage, and Rock Mafia and contains elements of sugary-sweet electropop music. Cosgrove has been the voice of Margo, one of three orphanage children adopted by supervillain Felonious Gru, since the film Despicable Me was initially released in 2010. In 2010, 2013, and 2017, the actress played Mina in three more Despicable Me films. She is now preparing for the release of her fourth feature, which is scheduled for 2024. It’s a well-kept Hollywood secret that comic stars are frequently ignored for drama or horror roles. When she starred in Adam Massey’s horror film The Intruders in 2015, Cosgrove attempted to defy the “stereotype.”

The Intruders, starring Austin Butler, Donal Logue, and Tom Sizemore, depicts the story of a 20-year-old who is dealing with the suicide of her schizophrenic mother. Following iCarly, Cosgrove branched out into a more adult-oriented comedy with Crowded. The sitcom premiered on NBC in 2016 as a mid-season addition in the 2015–16 season, with 13 episodes about “an empty nest couple who discover that their adult daughters want to move back home with them.” Cosgrove featured opposite Patrick Warburton, Carrie Preston, Stacy Keach, and others in the film as one of the daughters. Unfortunately, NBC decided to terminate the show after only one season. According to Deadline, the decision was taken due to the show’s low ratings.

Interestingly, despite her fame as a beloved child actor at the time, Cosgrove waited a long time to receive her first Emmy nomination. From 2019 to the present, she’s been the host of CBS Dream Team’s Mission Unstoppable with Miranda Cosgrove, a show that highlights remarkable female scientists, and she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Educational or Informational Series in 2020.
