Blake Lively is one of Hollywood’s best-dressed women, so it’s no wonder that she managed to stand out in a sea of golden glamour at the 2022 Met Gala. Her extravagant crystal-encrusted dress is a striking Versace style, with tones of baby blue, mint green, and coral orange hues added to a layer of brown fabric. Lively accessorized her gown with a metallic leather train and an enormous dramatic bow created from copper foil, which matched her opera gloves perfectly.
Lively executed the ultimate reveal as she mounted the red carpet steps, releasing the huge bow around her waist to reveal a copper green train underneath. What’s the significance of her presentation? Lady Liberty is the subject of this ode. This transformation paralleled the color change of the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was copper-colored when it was unveiled in 1886 during the Gilded Age. It has since oxidized to a rich shade of green, resulting in Lively’s interpretive shift. An embroidered pattern on the train of the dress depicts a celestial map inspired by the twelve zodiac constellations on the ceiling of New York’s Grand Central Terminal, among other symbolic aspects of this Versace style.
Lively accessorized with handcrafted Lorraine Schwartz earrings set with about 90 carats of nude diamonds and mint green Colombian emeralds, as well as a partly oxidized copper tiara with seven spikes, symbolizing the Statue of Liberty once more. Lively’s efforts to encapsulate gilded glamour surpassed expectations on a red carpet where many participants missed the point of the theme.
