When asked to choose between two of Deepika Padukone’s loved characters, ‘Lady Singham’ Shakti Shetty and Meenamma, Rohit Shetty had a reply that definitely would win our hearts! Rohit Shetty has created all the buzz among audiences with the introduction of Lady Singham Deepika Padukone’s Shakti Shetty, in Singham Again, and we absolutely love it! However, what we cannot forget is our beloved Meenamma, aka Meenalochni Azhagusundaram from Chennai Express and how each time, Rohit and Deepika come together they definitely bring iconic and most memorable characters.
Deepika aced both portrayals and in a recent interview, the director was asked which character is closer to his heart. “See, Shakti Shetty abhi toh, aage kuch kahani banegi, but obviously, at present, if you ask me, Meenamma will be very close to my heart,” Shetty said, reminiscing about his favorite character from the film. He also touched upon the process of cracking the perfect comedic performance, noting that comedy often requires time and a deep understanding between the director and actor. Shetty also revealed in another chat with Mukesh Chhabra, that after four days of shooting, Deepika finally embraced the character’s quirks, shedding initial apprehensions and delivering a performance that matched the film’s comedic essence – and with so much hardwork put in to perfect it, that’s how we got the perfect ‘Bakwaass dictionary’ dialect of Meenamma that received love and will stay iconic always.
In a recent conversation with a publication, Shetty also said about the standalone film with Deepika’s character and the delay in introducing it to the cop-verse. He explained that he wanted to ensure the character had a fitting script. Rohit clarified that the script is yet to be written. He mentioned that although there’s a concept in place, the team is still exploring its direction.
Rohit Shetty’s recent release Singham Again starred Deepika Padukone as Lady Singham Shakti Shetty who received massive love from the audience for the massy avatar. The film was released in theatres on November 1, 2024.
