In several interviews, when Deepika was asked about her favourite comfort food, she has an instant answer and that is rasam rice.

Rasam is a versatile dish and can be eaten with rice, or simple vegetables or just as a soup. Rasam is very easy to make and you don’t need to be a professional chef or a brilliant cook to make the same. With just a few ingredients and a few minutes, your rasam will be ready. Today, we bring you the recipe (As per reports in India Today).

Steps to make rasam:

Step 1

1. Take a pan and add 1/4 teaspoon methi seeds and one dried chili. Dry roast the ingredients until methi turns slightly aromatic.

2. Add 1 1/2 teaspoon cumin seed and 1/4 to 1/2 tsp peppercorn to the mixture.

3. Roast all the ingredients until methi turns dark in colour.

4. Cool the mixture and add it to the grinder.

5. You can either grind all the mixtures or if you want to have them just like that in the rasam, then keep them aside to cool.

6. Take a pan and add 1 1/2 tablespoon oil in the hot pan. When oil turns hot, add half-broken red chili, 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds, and 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds.

7. Once the seeds start to splutter, add 3-4 crushed garlic cloves, 1 spring curry leaves, and a pinch of hing.

8. Saute the ingredients until leaves turn crisp.

Rasam: Step 2

1. Take a different pan. Add 1 to 1 1/2 cups chopped tomatoes or tomato puree (2-3 medium tomatoes)

2. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon turmeric.

3. Cover and cook the mixture until tomatoes turn mushy.

4. Add all the spices from step 1.

5. Mix and saute the mixture for 2-3 minutes.

6. Pour 2-3 cups of water and add 1 teaspoon tamarind.

7. Add jaggery as per your taste.

8. Bring the mixture to boil and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Add coriander to garnish.

Serve the hot rasam as a soup or with rice and enjoy!
