Mammootty the evergreen and versatile actor from the Malayalam film industry has made the Nation proud with his achievements. His career has spanned as many as five decades and this long journey has not stopped the man from choosing the best.

Even today, Mammootty looks for the best of opportunities and this has resulted in him rejecting many noteworthy films too.

Are you surprised when we say this? Well a report in timesnownews.com wrote about the epic films that were initially offered to Mammootty but for various reasons, he did not accept them.

We take reference from this story for our write up here.

Ekalavyan

Filmmaker Shaji Kailas initially approached Mammootty for the lead role in Ekalavyan. But after hearing the script, Mammootty apparently told Shaji that he is not impressed with the dialogues. Initially, Suresh Gopi was set to play the role of the second hero in the movie. However, Shaji later decided to change the lead role to Suresh Gopi and as a result, Siddique was given the role originally planned for Suresh.. The 1993 hit action movie made Suresh an overnight star and marked the birth of a new superstar in Mollywood. It was a commercial success and ran in theatres for almost 200 days.

Rajavinte Makan

The 1986 gangster film Rajavinte Makan was reportedly first narrated to megastar by filmmaker Thambi Kannanthanam. However, he refused to do the film due to some unknown reasons. Later, the film was made with superstar Mohanlal in the lead role and emerged as a huge blockbuster at the box office. The character of underworld don Vincent Gomez portrayed by Mohanlal is still considered one of the most stylishly crafted roles ever made in Mollywood history.

Iruvar

Mammootty was also approached for the ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam directed Tamil Film Iruvar (1997) to play the role which was later done by Prakash Raj. It stars Mohanlal and Prakash Raj as friends-turned-political opponents. The political drama also featured Aishwariya Rai Bachchan, Revathi, Gautami, and Tabu. Prakash won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor in this film.

Memories

Memories, the Jeethu Joseph directorial which featured Prithviraj Sukumaran, was one of the biggest hits in 2013. After the release of the movie, Jeethu revealed that he had initially approached Mammootty to do the lead role in this flick.

Drishyam

The blockbuster film of 2013, Drishyam which turned out to be one of the biggest hits of Mohanlal’s career was also offered to Mammootty earlier. Mammootty, reportedly, refused due to date issues but fully supported the film and urged fans to watch it. Drishyam has become one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time. Furthermore, it has been remade in multiple other languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.

How do you like this list? Do you think Mammootty was justified in denying these big films?
