Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap Says About How Bollywood Movies Are Failing Today

Check out what Anurag Kashyap says about Bollywood Films

Anurag Singh Kashyap is an Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter who was born on September 10, 1972. With the as-of-yet unreleased Paanch, starring Kay Kay Menon, Kashyap made his directorial debut. He is best known as a director for the controversial and award-winning Hindi film Black Friday (2004), which is about the 1993 Mumbai bombings. His other notable works include No Smoking (2007), Dev D (2009), Gulaal (2009), That Girl in Yellow Boots (2011), and Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). He created the screenplays for the Canadian film Water and the Filmfare Award-winning Satya (1998), both of which were nominated for an Academy Award (2005). In 2009, he established Anurag Kashyap Films Pvt. Ltd., his production company.

Anurag Kashyap, a director, and Taapsee Pannu, an actor, responded to Bollywood’s poor box office performance and the ongoing boycott calls for high-profile movies like Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan. Taapsee made light of the fact that she would feel excluded if their future film Dobaaraa wasn’t also boycotted.

Taapsee stated, “Humari photo boycott nahin kiya, so we’ll feel out of place,” in an interview with India Today. “Toh kindly boycott trend Karte rehna. We ought to be on par with films like Laal Singh Chaddha, Raksha Bandhan, and others that are being boycotted. We don’t want to feel out of place because we are a part of Bollywood as well.” Anurag Kashyap jokingly questioned if boycotters actually see movies in theatres or if they just illegally download them.

Anurag responded to the mantra that Bollywood is in trouble by declaring, “The country is in trouble. When you say “Duniya sink kar rakhi hai,” you’re referring to Bollywood. You won’t see the Maldives for a while since the planet is sinking, the ice caps are melting, and there is a heat wave in Europe.” He continued by saying that he would keep working until the planet was destroyed.

Anurag responded when asked why Bollywood movies aren’t performing well at the box office, “We’re just not reaching out. Who knows, maybe even the best movies have failed at times. We would already be Ambanis if everyone knew the formula. He claimed that it is impossible to forecast a movie’s performance.
