Know why Jennifer Lawrence said that she didn't have a life

Jennifer Lawrence seems to be either institutionalized or on the set of a horror film at first glance. She’s in a rattan rocking rocker, which is softly creaking back and forth. Except for the disconcerting shadow of a ladder over her right shoulder, the walls of the otherwise empty room are colorless and naked. Her hair is damp and long. Her computer lies atop a stack of boxes, tilted for her stint in Zoom prison this September morning so that her pregnant belly is hidden. Behind her, there’s a scratching at the door.

Her cat Frank, also known as Fredericks, doesn’t want to be a part of this and is attempting to flee. She begins our talk by saying, “I’m very nervous.” “It’s been a long time since I’ve talked to the world.” “And now, when I’ve added all of these wonderful accouterments to my life, which I obviously want to safeguard……” Her arms are crossed over her loose grey sweater. “I’m worried about you. I’m worried about myself. I’m worried about the audience!” Lawrence returns to the big screen after a long absence in Adam McKay’s end-of-the-world comedy Don’t Look Up, in which she and Leonardo DiCaprio play scientists pleading with a polarised society to take the approaching comet seriously.

The 31-year-old discusses her reasoning for taking a step back, among other things. “I wasn’t cranking out the quality that I should have,” she adds, referring to a series of films that earned mixed reviews and performed poorly at the box office. “I simply believe that everyone has had enough of me. I’d had enough of myself. I’d reached a point where I couldn’t perform anything correctly.” And, more importantly, “I didn’t have a life.” “I figured I’d go get one.” Lawrence is now married and has her first child on the way.
