The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has extended invitations to 397 artists and executives to join as members. These individuals include Bollywood star Kajol, South Indian actor-producer Suriya, and writer-director Reema Kagti. The Academy revealed the list of new members on Tuesday. The Oscars are organized every year by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The documentary filmmakers Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas, whose film “Writing with Fire” garnered an Oscar nomination earlier this year, are among the other Indians who received the invitation this year. Aditya Sood, producer of “Deadpool,” and Sohini Sengupta, a PR and marketing expert, are the other two Indians who have been invited by the Academy. Actors like Ariana DeBose, Billie Eilish, Jamie Dornan, and Troy Kotsur are among those on the thorough list. One of Tamil cinema’s most well-known performers and producers is Suriya. His movie “Soorarai Pottru” served as India’s official Oscar 2021 entry. The actor is also well-known for popular movies like the “Singham” series, “Ghajini,” and “Jai Bhim” series, among others.
One of Bollywood’s most well-known actors in the 1990s and early 2000s, Kajol appeared in hit movies like “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,” and “My Name Is Khan,” and “Dilwale,” to name a few. Reema Kagti is a well-known writer and director who has created films such as Talaash and Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd. She also co-owns Tiger Baby Productions with Zoya Akhtar, which is the company behind the critically acclaimed films Gully Boy and Made in Heaven. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences invites executives and artists from all around the world to join the film organization as members each year. Once accepted, the members are qualified to cast ballots for the annual Oscars, which are held in Los Angeles. Not only is membership a matter of honour, but many people also view it as a type of representation.
